Polyneuritis
When the nerves get inflamed

“Suddenly my face was paralyzed”, “The nerves in the skin hurt unbearably”, “My arms are numb”.

This or something similar is how people with polyneuritis experience their agonizing discomfort.

In polyneuritis, several nerves are inflamed. Depending on the type of nerve fibers, the affected areas of the body may be paralyzed, show sensory disturbances or hurt. The cause is thought to be a defensive reaction of the body against its own nerves, since polyneuritis occurs frequently after certain infections. Occurrence after vaccinations is also possible, as is vitamin B1 deficiency.

A well-known example of polyneuritis is the highly painful shingles (herpes zoster), when it affects several nerves.

How does Vedic Medicine view polyneuritis?

Polyneuritis from an Ayurvedic point of view

According to the Maharishi Ayurveda approach, polyneuritis starts with the loss of natural balance.

Metabolic residues and toxins, called “ama” in Ayurveda, are constantly produced – due to our way of life – which accumulate in the nervous system in the case of polyneuritis. They are also responsible for the derailment of the immune system, which attacks the sheathing of the affected nerve fibers.

However, according to Ayurveda, no two patients are alike and so every polyneuritis is different. The Ayurvedic approach in our clinic is based on holism.

What can Ayurveda do for you?

In Vedic medicine, polyneuritis is addressed by combining various treatments into a multi-faceted approach adapted to your individual situation, as determined in a comprehensive diagnosis by one of our physicians.

An integrated approach

Increasingly, patients are finding that conventional therapies alone are not enough.

They recognize that the path to recovery must take place at all levels. In the case of polyneuritis, for example, the focus can be on the elimination of toxins or the balancing of the immune system. It is important to bring the natural regulatory principles back into a necessary balance. Nutritional recommendations, helpful exercises as well as special herbal mixtures – all put together especially for you – help you to lead a more conscious lifestyle. So that your natural self-healing powers can effectively mitigate the symptoms of polyneuritis.
