High cholesterol
When cholesterol and triglycerides get out of hand

“I eat a very healthy diet — but in spite of that my doctor discovered elevated blood lipid levels.” “I’m afraid I might have a heart attack or stroke.”

This or a similar experience is what people report with regard to their metabolism disorder.

The so-called hyperlipidemia itself doesn’t cause complaints. Hypercholesterolemia, increased cholesterol in the blood, is the major risk factor for arteriosclerosis. Sixty percent of the increased cholesterol is caused by stress. A low-cholesterol diet almost never decreases cholesterol in the blood.

This holds true for genetic conditions as well as for a gradual change in metabolism caused by lack of exercise, undue weight gain, diabetes, thyroid hypofunction and other metabolic disorders.

What is the Vedic medicine point of view on metabolism disorders?

High cholesterol from an Ayurvedic point of view

According to the Maharishi Ayurveda approach, metabolism disorders start with the loss of natural balance.

Metabolic residues develop continuously due to improper lifestyle. In the case of alterations in metabolism, toxins (in Ayurveda called “Ama”) accumulate throughout the physiology. A diet that is low in vital substances causes elevated lipid levels, and particularly a deficiency of vitamin C.

In Ayurveda every patient is different and so each person’s metabolism disorder varies. The Ayurvedic approach at our Centre is holistic.

What can Ayurveda do for you?

In Vedic medicine, high cholesterol is addressed by combining various treatments into a multi-faceted approach adapted to your individual situation, as determined in a comprehensive diagnosis by one of our physicians.

An integrated approach

Increasingly, patients are finding that conventional therapies alone are not enough.

They recognize that healing must take place on all levels. In the case of metabolism disorders, for example, an emphasis on elimination of toxins as well as balancing of liver metabolism can be recommended. It is important to bring all natural regulatory principles back into harmony. Nutritional recommendations and helpful exercises, as well as specific herbal mixtures tailored according to your needs, support a health-conscious lifestyle. In this way, your natural self-healing abilities can re-establish healthy lipid levels.
